The Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) is a federal program that provides monthly emergency and supplemental food packages to individuals and families who meet the income guidelines (see below) set by the federal government.

The San Diego Food Bank administers the program and distributes USDA provided food to over 69,000 individuals at 91 distribution sites every month throughout San Diego County. Participants on the Emergency Food Assistance Program receive a bag of food once a month at a local distribution site in their area.

        HOW TO SIGN UP:

In order to register, applicants can visit an EFAP food distribution site in their area. At the distribution site, applicants must state their household income; give their name and address; and state the number of people living in their household. Documentation is not required to register for the program.

New applicants who qualify for the program and need immediate food assistance can visit an EFAP ‘emergency site,’ sign up to the program and receive an emergency bag of food and at the same time.

After signing up, new participants will be entitled to receive food bags from an EFAP distribution site within their zip code on the allocated food distribution day every month.

Please note, due to federal restrictions, all food distribution sites will only be able to provide emergency food packages to a household, outside of the set monthly distributions, three times per year. Households who have reached their maximum emergency food allocation for the year should contact the SDFB on 1-866-350-FOOD (3663)

Applicants who meet the income guidelines will be accepted into the program and will be given the address of their local distribution site based on their household’s zip code.

To see if you meet the income guidelines, refer to the income chart below:
